Has anyone figured out how to make the layout work without a background image? I would really like to use a color for side a and side b that would extend from top to bottom no mater which side is longer.
Well, indeed you can remove the container. But i can be usefull to format something to all the columns (maybe a padding)
The image colors don’t change when I change the column colors. They always stay orange and green. Also, there is no image to download. It appears to be a hyperlink. There is no way to right-click it and select “save as”…am I missing something??
John, your are right about the image to download, it didn’t change. But i can download, now and before. You don’t see it bellow HTML box?
Anyway thank John, i’ve can fix the tool :)
Hi,
Wonderful generator
But the image cannot be saved. So I took a snapshot of the page and created my own gif
Otherwise a wonderrful idea
Only three col template I know with sidebars of different customizable colors
Why does the layout goes wrong in FF when I remove the footer?
Great and very useful tool! Could somebody suggest how to modify the 3 column layout to merge say, “side_a” and “content” into a single column, placed either above or below “side_a”? This would get a mixed 2/3 column layout.
It would be useful to have the option of doing the same, but using “column_b”, in other words, merge “content” and “side_b” and place the merged column either above or below “column_b”.
Alternatively, how could the above be achieved using the 2 column layout by splitting either column?
Thanks for any suggestions.
Thanks for the Holly Hack (height: 1%),
I was racking my brains, wondering why IE wouldn’t render properly (or even at all)….
You saved my skin
…and a lot of frustrating hours researching something so simple (when you’ve got a million other things to do and goddamn IE stops you from doing them!!!)
Cheers
After spending too much time searching Google for a quality, 3-Col CSS layout, this solution seemed almost too easy… but it seems to be working great. The layout rendered very well in FF, but I had to fight it a little in IE (big surprise, right?). Specifically, the footer wasn’t rendering correctly. All I had to do to fix this little problem was add “height” property to the footer’s CSS ID selector (eg “height: 14px”). Perhaps this is what S Batcup was referring to with the “Holly Hack” where a similar property is defined as “height: 1%”. I test this and it seemed to work fine.
Try another solution (strictly CSS, without background image) – 2columns.net.
I copied the code exactly but for some reason the widths for the columns are not working everything is going to 700px. Any ideas what I am doing wrong?
PERFECT! This solved my problem. Thank you SO MUCH! You don’t know how much you’ve helped me :)
THIS LOOKS SIMPLE ENOUGH THAT i COULD DO IT, AS A NEWBIE TO CSS. IS THERE A WAY TO PUT A BORDER ON THE COLUMNS? I’d really love to see that too! Thank you!
Guys, you’re hot! I like what you’re doing and how you’re doing it.
Good luck with work. I’ll be in touch.

Thanks for the layout generator!
Is there a way to make this layout be 100% page height? I’ve messed around with the css and the only thing I can manage to do is get the columns to stretch out to 100% height but it doesn’t clear the footer, it goes behind the footer and then goes to the bottom.
Yeah I’ve been searching for the liquid height for css and it’s all in vain I guess there is no such thing… what a bummer !!
Hey, I used your 2 column layout maker to make my site:D see here: http://slipknotee.com/

I have been searching for a simple 3 column layout as well and it doesn’t get any simpler than this…others that I tried had way too much css classes and ID and I just got totally confused! but thanks mucho! so glad I found this!
Nice example. However the CSS does not quite work that is viewable on in your output example. I had to look at this web pages source css to get it to work.
It was missing body tag etc.
Also the footer won’t stay at the bottom of the web page!
great tool.
I modified and edited this layout. Is here my work. Thanks for your layout.

David, have you tried this (needs javascript)?
Where is the CSS for the container div?
